Mindful Colors No. 1: Indigo / 쪽빛

Digital Zine — Individual Issue

The first issue of Mindful Colors is dedicated to Indigo / 쪽빛—a color that has been at the heart of my artistic practice, research, and teaching for many years.

Through photographs, research, personal reflections, and stories from my own practice, this 12-page digital zine explores Korean indigo traditions and culture, from growing jjok (쪽) and traditional indigo dye making to fermentation, indigo-dyed hanji, and the revival of indigo traditions in Naju.

Mindful Colors is not intended as a step-by-step dyeing manual. Instead, it is an invitation to experience natural color as living knowledge—connecting plants, place, cultural traditions, material practices, and contemporary creative life.

Inside this issue: Korean indigo traditions and history, jjok cultivation and traditional dye processes, indigo and hanji, stories of cultural preservation and revival, and reflections from my own research, growing, making, and teaching practice.
